Coco worked on this bed for 10 minutes to get it in this shape. Doesn’t look comfy to me.

Then she tried this.

Then this.

Had the urge to bake cookies. Used what I had on hand. Oatmeal, toasted coconut and pecans. Coconut oil replaced butter. They were good.

Later after a rough play from being cooped up by rain. They had rearranged the sofa cushions forming a hole. Ed said being in a hole made her vulnerable to attacks.

He was right. This happened next.

Look at the grand chihuahuas.

On another food note. I love recreating this salad Ashley and Bryan made at the beach one year. I make it whenever I have leftover corn on the cob. This was especially good since the corn was boiled in Zatarain’s the night we had shrimp. Oh, and Green Goddess dressing.

Book Club

Kathy started us off with and aperitif. It is an Italian cocktail used to increase your appetite ( like we needed help with that !). She made it with Aperol ( also an Italian drink ) and champagne. I think it’s called an Aperol Spritz. It was so light and refreshing.

Look at these lovely baby wedge salads.

Table was lovely.

Stuffed shells, baby wedge, focaccia and a super dipping sauce. At the back is steamed carrot and parsnip with herbs.  I forgot to take a picture of the Shoney’s strawberry pie. We read Hang the Moon by Jeanette Walls. We all enjoyed it.

Newest development. Coco wants to sit with Ed. Chair is small.

Sandy wants to sit with me. Chair is small.

Glucose monitor is fun so far. That spike was after a bowl of sugary cereal.

Coco dug a nice hole. See the dirt on her nose?

Relaxing afterward.

Keep trying new ways of cooking fresh green beans. This one was good. Roasted in olive oil and Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel seasoning. Lemon juice squeezed on after cooking.

TLC

Mom needed a little extra TLC this week. I got to spend the night at St. C’s. Brought over some dinner and Mom had soup.

This is the last of the Franciscan soup/cereal bowls.

I know Sophie wishes she still had more. But styles change…and then change back.

It’s funny the little things we do. Mom warms her milk and mug on the coffee maker.

My reward was good St. C’s breakfast.

With a lake view.

Got my new blood sugar sensor. Wonder if it minds being on my flappy, crepey skin. I check it with my phone.

Look how this sister and brother love each other.

Mine do to.

Lafayette 4

Next up was Borden’s ice cream shop. It is the only remaining retail shop in the world! It was so cute. Got a chocolate malt.

Headed home to see Monty.

Bon Temps Grill for dinner.

Crab dip.

This was delicious. I needed some green veggies.

Their sweet little home.

Willie

Cosmo.

Little gator at the AirBNB. He is lucky he didn’t end up in my luggage.

There were gorgeous murals everywhere downtown.

They were working on this one.

Dwyer’s Cafe. Got another boudain biscuit. Love them. Will miss these two.

Lafayette 3

Next up was the Jungle Gardens. It is a driving tour. It had rained so much that the water birds were hunting in the fields.

Someone was getting married there later.

Only one alligator sighted. Not in this pic though.

This is Bird Land.

These are snowy egrets that come here to nest every year.

How many colors of green!?!

Beautiful golden bamboo.

Lafayette 2

Misty / Little Kitty

Relaxing on the porch. Watching the sunset.

Picked up excellent sushi.

Breakfast the next morning at The French Press. It is an old print shop. Tripp sporting a tshirt from his new work place.

Started with Louisiana style Bloody Mary.

Boudain and bacon biscuit.

Since it was raining we decided to tour the Tabasco plant. Tabasco peppers.

The fermenting room. That is salt on top to seal it.

Mary Grace liked how it smelled.

Stored barrels.

Beautiful bamboo walkway.

When the naturalist McIlhenny imported this plant from Asia, he didn’t realize what an invasive species it was.

Big flavor!

Tabasco chandelier.
