Quarantine blooms on

I was wrong THIS is the peak. I think.

Saturday breakfast. It is Saturday isn't it?

The cookies I left y’all to make these cookies. They came out perfect.

Tried out my gift from Candy post surgery. Hadn’t really felt like it until now. The best of everything. Especially since being an actor makes you an expert on distilling. This gin is by actor, Ryan Reynolds.  Have to admit it was good. I don’t like it to have too much licorice taste. Also had an unexpected pocket of fun. Ivy and Tripp stopped by on their way home from a visit to Meridian. Tripp’s grandfather is very ill. But it was great to see them (from a safe distance).

Quarantine ....well you know

Knew something was up out front

Oh no. A morning of high pitched aaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Results however were great.

Picked a cute little weed to accompany my over abundant oregano. Also still enjoying my new dish detergent dispenser there in back. I think I’ll go bake cookies.

Quarantine pops a lid...

...on lunch meat that is.

Remember back at the beginning of the pandemic when we were afraid we would run out of food? Well I did my part by purchasing some Deviled Ham for Mom and I. So I decided to break it out today. Wonder why it is wrapped in paper? I guess to prove it is better than it’s poor cousin , potted meat.

Ed said it reminded him of work days at hunting camp. They have excellent food during hunting season but during summer work days they have to survive on what will “keep” in the truck. It was actually pretty decent with good mayonnaise and Dijon mustard.

Saw a big frog in one of our fountains yesterday. He (or she) was gone before I could take a picture. I hope it was a female laying eggs. I could use some tadpoles in my life.

Quarantine sprints on

I think my Bears breeches is just about at its peak.

Had cheater red beans and rice. They really are good.

Sweet (?) Pepper in my chair every chance he gets.

Look at his little fang.

Do y’all remember the Norge Village cleaners? Thinking of using it as inspiration for new Brandon Pizza Shack.

Made Morning Glory Muffins.

What a pain but worth it.

Quarantine pops up

We have had a few rains lately which brought out a few fun guys. This one still holding water.

Colorful red with white gills.

An unfinished squirrel snack.

Not a fungi but a cute little fern in the path.

The girls loved these. Puffballs. They puff out brown smoke when touched or stomped on, as was the case with them.

Truffles, my aptly named fellow fungi researcher.

Quarantine stomps on

Check out the progress of the bear’s breeches bloom

Gardenias are busting out this year.

Love that smell. I can remember growing up and going to my Mamaw Brown’s house and putting on her Jungle Gardenia perfume. I probably used a heavy hand because it made my sisters gag.

Here is my new dish soap dispenser all hooked up. Makes me happy.

We always wonder where our tiny socks escape to. Found this between our washer and dryer. Left from when S&P were out of the laundry business due to renovation.

Quarantine lathers on

Took a shower.  May lie down the rest of the day

Quarantine heads to the hospital

Since I had a full day of pre-op prep on Mother’s Day we indulged in a little social distancing visit on Saturday.

Got together six feet apart at the Patrick’s. Sooo good to see them in person.

We talked and talked (what I miss most)

Wouldn’t be complete with out the grandogs.

They gave me a pretty soap dispenser and a kindle gift card

Prep was awful next day. But real Coke!

The best thing about the hospital.

Candy brought flowers and a great goody bag. So much good food from family and friends. Just haven’t felt like photographing. Will be back soon though.

Quarantine skips merrily on

Got a craving for scalloped potatoes. Since the kids were little I had been using dehydrated boxed potatoes. And we loved them. But I had a nub of Velveeta still hiding in the back of the fridge so... I set out to look for a recipe. Turns out there is a somewhat famous one featuring the Melty One.
Candy helpfully pointed out that the meltability factor is what makes it most unhealthy.

What a pitiful picture of all that was left. That is because it was so good! You boil the potatoes first, then layer with onion and cover with sauce which included dry mustard.

Had to have a salad the next day to atone. Look at that cute bowl Linda gave me a set of one birthday.

More good books.

Truff with her favorite book.

2 minutes later she was done. Old ladies don’t play as long as they used to.

Quarantine lopes on 2

Thought I would add this to my radio post.

For anyone interested. Mom, do you remember when y’all bought it? Was there a Montgomery Ward store in town?

Quarantine lopes on

The ultimate comfort food...Aunt Charlotte’s brownies. Moist inside , crunchy on top. Perfect

Also in the perfection category... Ed made ribs. Rub a dub dub. Also nod to Mamaw Ellis with her enamel pan which I use constantly.

Corn salad to go with ribs. 😍

We have a really red squirrel lately in our yard. Caught him riding my pig!

Also...if your fridge light goes out...do you lose all hope?

Ok. Cousin Karen sent me a picture of a cute cabinet for sale  that was supposedly a radio cabinet. She is always on the look out for cool old things. I sent her a picture of our Grandmother’s radio cabinet. When I got this it was black and what refinishers call “alligatored”. Crackled finish. I stripped it to find all these lovely different woods.

Karen remembered turning knobs on it. Here they are.

My mom remembers coming home from high school and turning this switch to hear news of the war or programs.

The dial to change stations.  “Tune in”.

The actual radio is still there. I doubt it could still work. I remember going with Dad to get new “tubes” for the TV. Crazy? You can see it is an Airline radio from Montgomery Ward.
