February Book Club

Met at Jill’s house to discuss Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult.

Pretty spring table.

So good! Pork loin, cheese grits, green beans, salad and homemade focaccia.

Her famous pavlova for dessert. Didn’t get a picture of the presentation with strawberries and whipped cream.

Stopped by Mom’s and got to see the bulb process. These are runuculus  and I think hyacinths.

Tulips I think.

She got her Mardi Gras on.

Poor little Perriot.

Total relaxation.

Tuckered out.

Guess what happened next.

Yes.

Sandy was wet head to foot.

Working on it

Lord have mercy. If this was any healthier it would need a prescription. Trying to add more fruits 😝 and vegetables to my diet. This has onions, carrots, squash, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage , spinach, peppers and pork. Say hallelujah.

Spoonful of history

A bright spot caught my eye just off our back breezeway.

I thought it might be the missing piece from my spoon and fork wind chime. I got this from my Aunt D’s things. I love it but one piece has been missing. Ignore the spiderwebs.

Well, it wasn’t that. It is an old spoon that definitely has a history though. It is from my mom’s first set of silverware circa 1949. So this spoon fed us cereal and soup for many years at Meadow Ridge. When Mom went with new-fangled stainless flatware this set was pressed into service as the camping set. So that means this spoon traveled from coast to coast and Canada to Mexico! Later when we sold the camper they ended up everywhere. The girls even had them in their sandbox. So how it got right here I don’t know. I just do know that spoons were always disappearing for use in creative ways.

So, not valuable but sentimental. It says W. M. Rogers. Overlaid. It is silver plated. Well old spoon, you had an interesting life. Where did it come from originally? Mom?Check comments to see.

Today’s episode of Can you spot Ed?  How can he vanish completely?

The dogs were so happy with the warm weather today. I think from the back it looks like Coco is wearing pantyhose with seams.

Exhausted.

We are home

We got home safely Mom. Got in about 11:30 pm. Got home about midnight and are too keyed up to sleep. I know Mom will get up before me to read this. Hope to see y’all soon.

San Francisco 5

Our last hurrah. Wrapped up the trip with pizza. We had passed this little place several times.

And it was great. We sat right by the open street door and enjoyed wine for me and beer for Ed and toasted to a lovely trip. Now for the long trip home tomorrow.

San Francisco 4

Headed to Chinatown this morning. I was a bit underwhelmed by the Dragon Gate.

I can’t imagine who buys these statues.

So colorful.

Pretty old church.

Here we go.

We headed down this alley and followed the scent of cookies.

Found it.

This sweet lady gave us a hot cookie.

It was hot and delicious.

This lady was folding the cookies. She told me I had gone far enough. 🤭

Next we looked for a Dim Sum restaurant that Paul recommended. He said it’s down a little alley and it was.

Supposedly the first Dim Sum restaurant in America. That N in the sign has been missing for years. I guess they think it adds character.

The biggest and best pot stickers I have ever had.

Hang Ah special bbq pork steamed buns.

Explored a market.

How many kinds of sea cucumbers can there be?

Walked back to the wharf in front of Ghirardelli Square.

We may or may not have sat here and eaten another hot fudge sundae. ( we did )

Then sat on the sea wall steps. That guy in black was taking hundreds of photos of his wallet. Go figure.

San Francisco 3

Last night’s dinner spot.

We split a pile of calamari.

Returned to the mechanical museum with a pocketful of quarters.

They had several made of toothpicks by prisoners at San Quentin prison. This was one. For a quarter the Ferris wheel turned.

Waiting on the streetcar. They were so beautiful. The colors represent various cities where they were made. I think this was Birmingham. We rode it home.

We rode this one downtown. I think it is Pittsburgh. Look at the blue of that sky.

How do they keep it do clean and shiny.

I could have ridden all day.

They do still have the old, old ones.

We spotted our destination.

After a lot of walking we settled in to our lunch spot.

I got the cioppino and it was so good. It’s just a mountain of shrimp, prawns, mussels, crab scallops and fish with delicious tomato based broth.

They have these painted sea lions everywhere commemorating 30 years of the sea lions living at Pier 39. This one was in front of our hotel.
