My turn

For Book Club that is. I was happy to have October so I could bust out the pumpkins.

Forgot to take pictures of the set table. Oops.

Used my blue willow. I love orange and cobalt blue.

Had forgotten my old orange sugar mold. What? You don’t think a rat skeleton is appetizing?

Those sunflowers are real.

Started us off with this latest obsession. A crisp, dry, non sweet rose.

Cynthia’s cranberry orange pork loin, cornbread dressing, roasted butternut squash and Brussels
Sprouts , salad and bread.

On to the pie. Looks like the bear was in the group.

Turtle pie on Ed’s mom Mary’s china. We read Edgar Allen Poe’s stories- The Black Cat and The Fall of the House of Usher. Very fun and creepy. We adjourned to the den and our giant TV to watch and hear a reading of Poe’s The Raven by Christopher Walken. He is one of my favorites.

Toby got dressed up for the party

Artist Tyler came over to put the decal on the door.

It turned out great! The process was fascinating.

Spooky

Ok, I know there is a perfectly good explanation for this.

But every morning my little pumpkin head is turned around backwards. The first time it had been windy the night before. The next time a branch had fallen near it. The last many times it has been clear and lovely. Maybe that dang squirrel is hopping on and taking a spin on the jack’o lantern merry go round.

PS. Mom if you don’t have internet who will read my blog and comment????

An unexpected pocket of fun

That is what my friend Amy calls it. When some little piece of wonderful comes your way. Chris was home for fall break and I stopped by to see him. After only a bit of talk, he said he was leaving. I asked “where to” and he said Deer Camp. I asked “ could I go?”  He said “Yes, let’s go have an adventure “.

After driving somewhere else so we could even get there (you can’t get there from here) , we arrived after a gorgeous drive through the countryside. Here is the tent pad.

How great is this?  Cook / den area

Mom loves seeing where he hunts.

He led us to one of his favorite deer stands. He had to remind us to be quiet 🤐 and leave no traces of us. He can walk as silently as a cat. We galumphed along behind him.

We reached the stand. Until we climbed inside we could not understand the scope of the view.

Looking out we could see for miles down a huge hill into two clearings into the deep bottom. Pretty breathtaking. So privileged to see this beautiful land. I understand why he loves it so much.

When you try to get a picture of the grandcat to send to vacationing pet parents.

Finally got this one.

Hurry home!

Toby was tired after his “spa” day.

Um. Guess it’s time to give up on this.

Was honored to be invited to Anna’s Biloxi Book Club along with Candy. They were reading the book we just read , My Cousin Rachel.

Pumpkin Cousin Rachel looked on. The teacup played a big role in the story.

Dang, that girl can set a table. Butternut squash ravioli and pear green salad.

Here they are. What an interesting, fun group. Great discussion followed by a viewing of the old black and white film of the book. Richard Burton and Olivia deHaviland. He was sooo young.

There is an art to it

Fun day. Got to hang some of the art in the restaurant. I love the way the patent art and the stock certificate look.

These are reprints of old bank posters encouraging people to save money.

Ben Franklin keeps a watchful eye in the bathroom. I think we should put a cartoon bubble from him that says “I saw that”. Tee hee. He actually looks a little smirky.

Then headed to church to do a fall visual for Bluegrass Sunday. Spoiled it for you Mom! Some of my favorite moments are doing these things in the quiet sanctuary. Kind of expect to look around and see Dad on pew five.

Pumpkin buffet

Had stowed these away post Halloween last year. Put them up and a cheery pumpkin in the background.

Doesn’t it look nice?

Back View. Obviously it looked delicious to someone. Wonder who?

Trucked out the old stuff. It’s getting a bit shabby.

Even had to pin the Jack o’ lantern’s grin together.

Caught out the front window. I banged on the window and he didn’t even leave.

Caught the pig races at the fair along with some good food.

The last pig had to be coaxed around the track.

Got home to this scene. Can you see it?

He let me get this close.

Well I guess I can put a candle in it and call it a day.

Kalalou is one of those places that you just have to go in and see what is there. Scored these cute shakers for the restaurant at $1 each.

Now that I’ve flipped the door over, I’m not sure which side is best. Both have character.

Trying to make concrete candle holders. Prototype turned out ok. Turns out patience is a virtue with concrete.

World Communion Sunday. Variety of breads from around the world. Gave it away after church. There was a bit of a stampede. Loved that old globe that friend, BP loaned me. It was over 100 years old.

The walkway in our backyard. These popped up quickly.

Love how they just shove everything out of their way

These little ones were right in the hard rock covered path.
