Then this happened

Mary Grace called and asked if I wanted to see a 5 day old donkey! Well, yes I do! A friend and coworker invited her to her farm in Canton. She lives in a lovely 1920’s Italianate bungalow downtown. Her farm is 5 - 10 minutes away! We pulled up to this great old barn.

Daddy donkey came out to meet us. We brought plenty of treats.

Oh and peacocks too. Naturally.

The new baby, Doolittle.

Mom was happy to show him off.

Look at his puffy topknot.

Polka dots.

We were in heaven.

The cross on Mom ‘s back.

The owner said they needed to be petted as much as possible to make them tame. Well ok!

Their home.

Pooky looks very natural at this.

Did I mention ducks?

And more peacocks?

I thought this one looked like a dandelion waiting to be blown.

Fed the horses.

The cows came to beg.

Went to feed Spooky G for Amy.

And my little weenie nugget , Monty

Had my cousin Karen over for lunch one day along with Mom and Jan. She had been wanting to see the house updates.

I found these precious orange roses that looked great in my little vases.

Went old school with Symphony Chicken. Remember the old one with dried beef on the bottom? It went by many names. I had to explain dried beef to MG and I’m still not sure either one of us understood it. Why didn’t I take our picture?

Next up was Pam’s book club. Birds and succulents decorated the table.

Crazy good and tender pork loin with roasted vegetables and salad.

Bananas Foster was exciting. One of our favorite books in a while. Elinor Oliphant is Completely Fine. We all loved it.

A stroll around the yard was lovely.

Always like to visit the old church sign from my Mamaw Brown’s Church. She was friends with Pam’s husband’s mother.

Down South Part 2

More pictures of the Hight yard in Leakesville.

A big fat cactus that I assume is staying put here

Bottlebrush was a hummingbird favorite.

Bees too.

Blue eyed grass and lilies vie for best purple.

Spiderwort wins.

Cute crabapples.

Even the clover was pretty.

Old oaks across the back.

Anna’s brother excels at roses.

Forgot what this was.

Old cistern turned fish pond.

Old bottles keep rain out of fence posts

Had to admire this clothesline thing.

Buddy is in a constant battle with squirrels over bird feed. He traps them and releases them far away. I think they make it home before he does. Anna secretly frees them when she can.

Down south

South Mississippi that is.

Headed to Leakesville where friend Anna is nursing her 101 old mama.  Candy has been there helping for a while. I decided to bring in provisions and moral support. It’s a dry county you know. Ancient magnolia greets me at the front yard.

And of course Jack did too!

The old gate reminded me of Meadow Ridge.

Candy talking with Granny.

Anna with Jack and her dog, Roxie.

The house is filled with gorgeous antiques. My bed.

It was sad circumstances but I enjoyed the lovely yard and gardens.

The drive

A Grancy Gray beard tree.

It’s beautiful blooms.
