OS 3

Can’t get enough of these beautiful live oaks here.

Had dinner last night here.

Cute old place. Lots of old folks eating there too!

We had a great view.

The table view wasn’t too bad either. We split the catfish / shrimp platter and were still stuffed.

Started today with famous Tatonut’s.

Had to stop at Shady Acres on the way home.

I need this. You can see how big it is compared to the truck in previous pic.

More food. Think I’ll never eat again

Ed however, needs to get started on this.

Went and picked up the girls.

Apparently they needed a little space. They share a kennel at the vet.

OS 2

Getting ready for day 2.

Good breakfast at Buzzy’s

Took a walk downtown. So pretty.

Sophie has some friends who own this little shop in a boutique hotel. It was so neat. Flowers and gifts.

The husband is an artist and I loved his work. He even made the paper.

The hotel was lovely too.

Even the bathroom! Check out the wall paper.

Cool furniture.

More walking.

Gyros for lunch.

Realizations. The Walter Anderson shop.

Bought a little souvenir.

Took a walk down our dock. Pelicans were begging at the bait shop.

41st Anniversary, Ocean Springs

Took the dogs to the spa (aka the vet) early this morning. I love the morning of a trip. Also noticed all the blooming trees in the woods between here and Canton.

First stop. Lunch at Ed’s burger joint in Hattiesburg.

It was good. Onion rings too.

Pulled up to our cottage by Fort Bayou just inside Ocean Springs. Love the view.

Our porch.

Ed relaxing.

We are in the Bluewater cottage. There are four of them.

Cute inside.

Tiny kitchen.

Stopped for a hot fudge sundae.

Back home to watch the sunset. Picked up shrimp poboys for dinner.

When I was cool

I think I was cool for a minute in the early 80’s. Preppy was in. I wore button down Polo shirts, blue jeans and a tan corduroy blazer. To dress up I wore expensive Pima cotton shirts that buttoned up my neck and wool pencil skirts. We had drinks and shrimp crepes at Poet ‘s. Spinach salad and little muffins at Widow Watson’s. Dancing at the Pyramid. We hit the free appetizer bar at Studebaker’s. Watched Princess Dianna get married on a tiny screen fat tv in my first apartment. My roommate Cindy and I walked every evening after work in the apartment complex, trolling for cute guys. And hey! I found one. He was sitting by the pool in a starched white button down (Polo of course), pleated khaki shorts ironed with a crease and Topsiders. Oh and don’t forget Tortoise shell sunglasses. Strawberry blond hair feathered and brushed back. Swoon. We went on to be cool for a while and then…kids.

Well here is the spinach salad ala 1981. It is still so good. Spinach, egg, bacon, almonds, red onion and poppy seed dressing.

How about beef stroganoff? Popular in 70’s. I used to make it a lot when the girls were little. Sometimes I used Hamburger Helper. This one was from leftover pot roast.

My cart at Homegoods. Wish Candy could have been there. She was the queen of Homegoods/Marshall’s/TJ Maxx. Shopping for Faces.

Sprucing up at Faces.

This one will get one more vase and stands for the quartz. Love it.

Good time

Ahhh, to sit back in my chair, feet up, sipping the dregs of the last glass of wine. Reflecting on book club at my house. The dishwasher is humming and the house is quiet now. What a joy to cook and serve food to good friends.

Wish Mom could have seen it. Her favorite color scheme is blue and yellow.

What started the theme was my big blue willow egg. I bring it out every spring.

And the beautiful mahonia shrub that is blooming now.

Forgot to get pics of the plate but we had chicken tortellini salad with green apples, spinach and almonds in it. Don’t worry Mom, I’m sending you some.

Homemade tomato soup. It really makes a difference in flavor.

Hot fudge pudding. Old, old recipe.

I love when I can work in my old spoons. I have several of these an old neighbor gave me. She was quite the collector. Don’t even want to think how the world was then in 1939.

We all loved this book.

These were very good girls in their crates today.

MG and Ryan bought Cletus a warm house. Here he is not in it.

Fire be lover.

She is glowing in this picture.

A little (?) loaf.

Enjoyed our annual Mardi Gras service at church.
