Ross Bridge 1

Another unexpected pocket of fun! A trip with Amy2 and Mary Grace. We are at Ross Bridge resort near Birmingham. Amy got us a great rate in a lovely suite.

This beautiful church was right behind our apartment. We enjoyed the chimes every fifteen minutes. 

We ate an early lunch at Frankie’s on Main. It was a lovely old bank building. 

Mary Grace said I looked good in this light. 

This window provided the light. 

Started with a charcuterie board. Time to head home after another stroll downtown.  

Natchez 4 mo

Dressed up for dinner at the Castle at Dunleith. 

Ready for more fun. 

We sat outside and it was super sunny until the sun went down. This is certainly where the natives go on the weekends!

When we came out , all the trees were lit up. 

Ryan got inspired.

There was a shop next door that sold records, flowers and drinks. This is some kind of double rose. 

Made a little tableau with MG’s Foreigner album and Ryan’s joke Easter basket. He had been haranguing me for years to make him one. This stopped the teasing. 

Here is our Airbnb. I got out early to pick up some pastries.

Enjoyed orange cranberry muffins and strawberry raspberry scones outside. Cool and breezy outside. Not sure what is up for today.  

Natchez 3

These poppies were planted by the river in front of the Magnolia Grill where we ate lunch. 

They looked unreal.  

Started with stuffed mushrooms almost as big as a tennis ball. 

MG and I split barbecue shrimp. 

Plenty of sides and bread to soak up that amazing juice. 

Ryan decided to hug an azalea. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No visit is complete without a stop at overwhelming Darby’s. And…

…and fudge.  

Natchez 2

Started the morning with breakfast MG made on our patio.  Perfect weather !

Mary Grace is ready. 

First stop Stanton Hall. 

The grounds are so pretty. 

Gorgeous rose fence. 

Our tour guide was quite efficient. 

I loved this Gothic set. 

These gas lights were amazing. They were called gasoliers.

Headed to Natchez for a couple of nights to experience pilgrimage. 

Off to a good start with Fat Mama’s tamales. 

Right across from the river. We sat outside. 

It was so nice. 

What we came for!

And nachos. 

Had time for one tour. 

We loved seeing the unfinished upper floors. 

This was the original house finial. It got blown down in a storm and was reproduced in fiberglass.

Relaxing while MG cooked lamb for us. Planning our route tomorrow. 

 

Spring for sure now

I’ve always loved this little tree we transplanted from my parents yard. Dad called it a Haw tree. 

Ed identified it with google as a Parsley Hawthorn. The leaves do look like parsley. It has never bloomed this much. 

Brought some in with one of our few azaleas. 

Jill had us over for March Book Club. Beautiful spring table. 

Easter touches everywhere. 

Lettuce wraps and honestly some of the best asparagus ever. 

And of course, our favorite, pavlova. We all loved the book The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty.
