so much wisdom to impart

Here is more wisdom from the trenches. Best quick breakfast.

love these English muffins. Whole wheat. I compared peanut butter and it is all so similar.

These are the best. Here is our mixed marriage omelet. My half has mozzarella, mushrooms and spinach. His is cheddar.

More healthy ideas

Move over kale...take a backseat sardines...hide in the back of the fridge Greek yogurt...there is a new super food in town. I feel obligated to report the latest food fad and some innovative ways to incorporate this healthy food powerhouse. It is low in fat, carbs and way down on the glycemic index. Such simple fare that anyone can afford and prepare this luscious treat! Work this newcomer to the health block into your diet. Yes , I'm talking about shoe tongues!

I'm going to give y'all some simple tips for incorporating this amazing food into your diet!

The first step is purchasing fresh, top quality shoes. Look for a store near you.

Once you have those shiny, beautiful specimens...get them to your kitchen. Carefully harvest the tongue with a sharp knife (I used a box cutter).

Remember to save those soles and laces for soups and stews. A good shoe stock can be frozen and used later.

The possibilities are endless.

One of my favorites is a nice roasted tongue with just sea salt and olive oil.

For lighter fare, try tongue in a fresh salad. Don't forget the parmesan, it pairs perfectly with the tangy tongue.

Tongue stands up well to hearty dishes like this beef and bean taco filling. Just imagine the zing (not to mention nutrition) it adds to a crunchy taco, loaded with greens, sour cream and cheese!

Tongue left whole can be a perfect purveyor of breakfast yogurt topped with granola.

This nutrition superstar even shows up when guests arrive as yummy chips for hummus. The possibilities are endless.

Watch for recipes and tips for using shoe sole. I'll share scrumptious favorites like Tex Mex sole soup,  O sole emeo (an Italian favorite), Grilled sole, Pecan crusted sole and even a southern take with "Sole Cookin". See you next time.

how did you start your day?

...as for me it was cleaning up a little pet mess. And when I say little I really mean huge and disgusting. Ed woke me with the gentle words "Truffles threw up in  the den". Oh and did he say it was a squirrel she threw up ? and where? of course on the rug. I respect all y'all enough to not post of picture. Ugh. Next topic.

Candy texted shortly after that episode to say ..."Let's go bury Joseph" . It is a Catholic tradition to bury a small statue of St. Joseph in the yard of a house for sale to ask his help with the sale. I knew I had a small plastic Joseph in a manger scene that I had volunteered. I replied "I'm on my way".

Joseph and I picked Candy up and set off. Tradition says to plant him head first facing the house right up front. Older ways involved threatening the saint, saying "you will remain with your head in the dirt until this house sells!". Newer thinking emphasizes faith and prayer. I decided that Candy would threaten and I would cover the faith portion. I mean...each to their strengths. So on a crazy cold morning, we did the deed.

If Joseph comes through, we are to dig him up and put him in a place of prominence in the new home and give him credit. I promise! What can it hurt?

Kitchen update. So far love the stove.

Breakfast looks good on it.

Healthy quiche.

Mixed reviews. Phyllo dough. Evaporated milk instead of half and half. Asparagus, Spinach, green onions, ham and swiss cheese

New Super food

Brody has discovered a new super food!

Jan says he pulls his socks off whenever he can and shoves them in his mouth.

How cute can a baby be?

I do believe those Merkoskey genes are dominate.

Pepper in my lap last night. Weird cat.

I'm stuck home waiting on stove, microwave and dishwasher delivery.

How does something that washes things get so disgusting? Here is the last load.

Last of the countertop meals. Red beans and rice for the installers (Ryan and Mary Grace)

Ebony and Ivory

Remember the old Stevie Wonder / Paul McCartney song? Candy thought of it when these two were sleeping on the (expensive) couch.

Fun church service Sunday. The Sunday before Mardi Gras Broadmeadow has a jazz service.

Southern Komfort jazz band plays the hymns and anthems.

After it was over , they led us out on the front porch. Nice shirt Sophie.

This little guy could barely walk, but he knew how to dance to the beat.

He was so cute.

This is a friend's grandson. He was really kicking up his heels. Check out Mom in the doorway.

One food item.

Rosemary sea salt bread makes perfect cheese toast.

Spring is coming and I'm starving

After we moved the breakfast table I got a good view of my jade plant (the little man). I brought him in to protect him from the cold. Especially after I fried half his leaves off with frost last season.

Doesn't he just look like he is begging to go out? Soon but not too soon.

Ok , here is the starving part

My afternoon snack...just kill me now. Jan gave me a good pep talk this morning about how well I'm doing, but I am hungry. Really need a snickers, I guess. They are putting out Easter candy now , so that doesn't help. This however does help.

This restaurant is in the same parking lot as my Kroger. They now sell their dressing at the grocery store. It has 60 calories in 2 T and I only use one. A score for  taste.

And my favorite Saturday menu is even better with asparagus coming back in season.

Ghetto gourmet

ok...that is my new alternate title for the blog. Remember I said I was like a pioneer woman without my stove? Well we moved the microwave and now it looks like I'm cooking in a slum apartment.

Remember the Sesame Street song - One of these things is not like the other? One of these things just isn't the same?

How did that little piggy get in there with those turkeys? I had one real piece of bacon left. I sadly gave it to Ed for breakfast. Candy brought me these from Whole Foods. I still have not made it there yet.

They are so good.

Now I'm all for eating healthy as you know but I have to draw the line somewhere.

I'm pretty sure this is a good place to draw it. I'm still trying to forget sardine salad.  Smoked fish soup can just keep on walking past this healthy food stand. Oh and everybody hold the phone...

Brody may be calling YOU!
