where does the time go?

so...this week flew by! I promise I was not watching Netflix shows on Candy's couch. Had breakfast at Crackerbarrel two days in a row!? Lucy, my godaughter's 17th birthday and the next day my friend, Amy's --- th birthday. Amy got to pick what she, Bev and I did all day. We went antiquing in Clinton and look what I found...

I've been looking for the perfect lamp for my den and this 50's lamp is just what I wanted. Apparently Pepper likes it too. After that score we relaxed at Julep's with bloody marys and portobello fries. Ok , you haven't had dog news lately so did you know that dogs like carrots to chew? me either, Mary Grace said they used to give them along with celery at Petsmart.

Had an unexpected pocket of fun (Amy's phrase) today after church. I was a little sad and lonely because Mom was having to miss church due to an eye issue (she is fine, family). I thought Sophie and Paul were out of town and Mary Grace said she and Ryan were not coming. Guess what. They all came. Obviously it pays to whine a little. S&P recommended the brunch at Nick's . Were they ever right. They have a bloody mary bar and very interesting food. I got a southern eggs benedict. Poached  eggs, hollandaise, ham on a sweet potato biscuit. Sorry I didn't get a pic, but I was hungry and you know how that makes me. We laughed and laughed. I love those guys. Well Ed is in the mood for red beans and rice. He even went to Kroger for onions and beans! How do they look?

One more dog moment if you don't mind. Truffles and Toby looked so cute sitting in the sun and I went to snap their picture. Truff saw the reflection off my phone on the brick wall and took off. Toby looks shocked.

Since then a thunderstorm has blown in and Truffles is huddled at my feet as I type this. She is scared of storms.

storm during the night

ok so here is just an extra little funny for you ....early in the night after we went to bed, Ed woke me up to say my snoring was keeping him awake. I gathered my pillows and ascended to the guest room to finish the night. I slept peacefully. I only got up once to make a trip to the bathroom and noticed the electricity was off. Feeling my way through the dark, I found my destination and only slightly considered why the power had failed. I woke up to a soft rain on the windows that morning. Refreshed and awake I came downstairs. Ed staggers in exhausted with dark shadows under his eyes. He claimed to have gotten no sleep. "Didn't you hear that storm?", he says, stunned.  He tells me about it. It thundered, lightening lit up the night, limbs fell, the power went off at 1:00, came back on and went off again at 3:00!! Every time it went off and on, all electronics sounded off. Truffles was scared to death and whined and shivered next to him all night. All the animals got upset with each power surge.  He cried, "you didn't hear any of it???". As I poured my coffee I simply said, "Why no dear, I was upstairs sleeping".

getting behind

gotten a little behind on the blog last week. I don't like to point fingers but, my friend Candy is to blame. She just finished up her teaching year and we have been overdosing a bit on being together. It starts like this

and ends up with us on her couch watching the netflix series Hemlock Grove, complete with werewolves and vampires. Am I embarrassed? a little, but it was fun, and anyone who knows Candy knows what great food she fed me too. Joan (who is also Ryan's mom) joined us at the pool too. So not to be left out of the pool season...Mary Grace and Ryan decided to buy a kiddie pool for their new lab mix Daphne. Well they decided it may as well be big enough for them too.

They also decided you can't have a redneck back yard pool without tall cans of Natural Light beer aka cheap beer. The big event that started this week was Chris' graduation. It was so bittersweet. I can hardly believe my little (?) godson is grown up . Here they are about to go to baccalaureate service the night before graduation. We had a great brunch party the next day.

Look how gorgeous Lucy is too. She graduates next year.

on a gardening note, my oregano went to bloom. I cut it back so it can put out fresh leaves, but couldn't bear to throw them out .
